So we talked all night about the rest of our lives...
... where we going to be when we turn twenty-five.. eh nine.
Hiya Beauts!
Yes this is me singing the Vitamin C song from a-many graduation ago and it fills me with excitement and nostalgia as I am about to graduate this weekend from my 200 hour Teacher Training with Rolf Gates! This has been an interesting year of accomplishments for me, many of which were very unexpected and stemmed from my OBsession with kettlebell training and physical fitness. Over the past year I have been certified as a personal trainer and kettlebell instructor, I began teaching Kettlekore, a kettlebell program featured at Advanced Training Concepts, and, along with several teamates at ATC, I recieved a kettlebell rank with the World Kettlebell Club. I would not have been able to do any of this with out the help of my mentor and coach, Cyrus Peterson. Sometimes we are so caught up in the excitement of our own accomplishments and adventures that we don't take the time to appreciate the people that got us there. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Without his influence and constant push to be better and do more I would not have these experiences.
While Kettlebell training is like the Gauntlet, always challenging and hard as the metal griped within my white knuckles, Yoga is the parade of flowers.. a colorful celebration of beauty. When things get tough, and especially tight :), I find my self letting it all go on my mat and opening my self up to great things. It only seemed natural to pursue a yoga certification. In the midst of making this decision.. it landed right at my front door, in my home studio of Charlotte Yoga. Rolf Gates was coming to town for 3 days a month for 8 months to teach us Yoga. Being an acclaimed author and taught by many greats, I knew that this was an experience that I could not let pass me by. So I began in this journey with 34 other women and feel so sad but so happy to see this very last 3 day weekend come. I am happy to write this to you all because I am truly slowing down to feel the magnitude of this coming weekend. I hope that all of you beauts are able to challenge yourself to your full potential, find that place to nurture your soul, and finally take the time to be present in the accomplishments of your beautiful soul. I am leaving you with a quote from that silly Vitamin C song and I hope it resonates with you!
Namaste Beauts, hugs and kisses,
Lizzie Bananas - WKC Longcycle Rank II, Kettlebell Instructor, and soon to be Certified Yoga Teacher :)
Will we think about tomorrow like we think about now
Can we survive it out there? Can we make it somehow?
I guess I thought that this would never end
And suddenly it's like we're all women and men.
I keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep thinking it's our time to fly.

Hi Beauts!Waking up this morning to another chilly Fall day, I am flipping through my closet deciding WHAT in the H-bomb to wear? What undoubtedly compliments a Fall look? An intricately designed leather handbag, that's what!

Fresh will be having cocktails and in-store specials and you will have a chance to meet and greet with the designer!
It is time to pull together you Fall wardrobe so whether it is a new handbag or Fall staples Fresh is the place to check out!

Can't Touch Your Toes Today?
Hi Beauts!
For all of you runners, Kettlebell girls, Yogaheads, and Zumba queens out there you probably, like me, have sore, tight muscles on a regular basis. For one - GO YOU for working so hard! And two, I want to let you in on one of the best home remedies for this residual soreness from being one-tough-chica! I bought a foam roller at the beginning of my Yoga training and never touched the thing. After training with a good friend of mine in Pinehurst on Labor Day I experienced the benefits of this simplistic tool. Foam rollers are used to break up scar tissue and pressure points, as well as a self-massage and myofascial release. Myofascial release is important for athletes to break down any adhesions of bone, muscle, and skin. Adhesions restrict muscle movement and reduce flexibility. MR also relieves IT Band Syndrome, shin splints, and post-workout soreness. AKA - you will be back in the game quicker, your down dog will look better, and you can rockout your grapevine in dance class! There are many youtube videos with exercises that you can do with a foam roller but the idea is that you use your own body weight to apply pressure to large muscle groups as you roll over the dense, foam, noodle-like tool. The benefits are equal to a sports massage without the price tag.
Today I will be having a Yoga class at 5:30pm at Duvalla Avenue and I will be rolling some of you beauts.. If you have any questions or would like to try out the roller shoot me an email or swing by for class! Have a great Tuesday dolls! Hope to see you this afternoon!

Do Something Charlotte!
Hi Beauts!
So in my unending quest to live a happy, healthy, productive life I have found that a lot of my peers ask how I avoid happy hours, beerfests, and late night throwdowns, and still have a social life. As I have gotten older those "good times" have become less appealing and I have found other interests that are not only entertaining but benefit the greater good of society. Spending your money and efforts in a way that helps bring hope to others while leaving you with a euphoric sense of worth is WAY better than spending time and money to pay your baristas rent leaving you with a massive headache from one too many Woo Woo Shots! This weekend in Charlotte there are many opportunities to get out there and DO SOMETHING inexpensive, clean, and fun!
For one, it's 1st Friday! All over the nation artists and gallerys celebrate the 1st weekend of every month by honoring featured artists with a gallery crawl of sorts! Where would you find such a thing in Charlotte?? Oh well, of course.. it would be in NoDa, Charlotte's Historic Arts District... admission is FREE and this week the Green Rice gallery is presenting creations by Jason Basden! He creates mixed media sculptures incorporating metal and mechanical findings. The street vendors of NoDa alone are worth taking a peak at, and I am always pretty intrigued by what Dialect and The Arthouse have on showcase!
Another idea to spend your Friday evening in the QC is attending an event where the proceeds benefit an organization in need. This weekend a couple of my friends are lending their talents and time and in part a few events have transpired - Beards BeCause began when two friends put forth a testosterone driven effort towards a feminine cause by raising money for a local battered women's shelter. Scott Doerr and Jared Yerg have raised thousands of dollars over the past 4 years for the United Family Services Shelter for Battered Women and have expanded their efforts to combat domestic violence to other cities, including Atlanta, Ga which kicks off their campaign this week as well! The fundraiser begins this weekend with the Clean Shaven Party on October 1st at 8 pm. The party will be held at Dilworth Neighborhood Grille and will have live music by Leadville Social Club and JT and the Dragpipes. There is at $10 donation at the door so come see what all the 'fuzz' is about ;)
Before you head to Dilworth Neighborhood Grille pop over to Blackfinn in the EpiCentre for another charitable event! Beginning at 5:30 pm this Friday the GALA Foundation is having it's first cocktail fundraiser to support the abused and neglected children of Mecklenburg County. As we all know the Charlotte Checkers are joining the AHL and tickets will be on sale for the opening game - $6 from those ticket purchases will go to the children as well as donations will be recieved all evening. Most importantly, a good friend of mine, Mike Bilfulco, will be playing live music at the event and that alone will be worth the trip!
Last but not least in the spirit of first fridays across the country, the Mint Museum opens Uptown this weekend! The Grand Opening event features 24 hours of festivities begining Friday evening at 5:00 pm for a ribbon cutting ceremony and includes tours of the new facility, films, an all night dance party (sponsored by our favorite gays of Takeover Friday), sunrise yoga, and a ton of hands on activities and demonstrations! $10 admission on Friday and open to the public on Saturday so pull an all nighter or pop over on Saturday and be a part of Art History at this groundbreaking event!
I hope you all are able to make it out and about on this cool October weekend! I personally can't wait to join the crowd and delve into what the city has to offer and what I can offer my city!

Goodbye Sweet Summertime
Good Morning Fit and Fab,
I hope that you are all feeling refreshed at the thought of moving into a new season. At 11:09 pm last night we said goodbye to Summer and hello to Autumn as the Harvest Moon shone brightly over us. I personally am thrilled to be moving on from summertime romances, white jeans (that are impossible to keep clean), and the temptation to be lazy by the pool everyday. Although the weather still reflects a mid-August mug, the mornings are cooler, the days are shorter, and October is right around the corner. What does this mean: FALL FASHION!!!!! Boots, clogs, denim leggings, huge leather bags, animal prints, and soft textured pieces! I personally wear what is in season no matter what the weather is, so as I have been pulling out my suede peeptoe pumps, black skinnies, and snake-print Nation T's. I prepare to break a mild sweat for the sake of fashion, and keeping up with those Fit and Fab women of The Big City! I can barely stand to flip through a magazine and see all of my favorite celebs up-to-date with Fall fashion and then step out into 90 degree weather and still see colorful dresses and Jack Rogers on all of my fellow Charlotteans... Please do not take that as a diss if you are rocking this look.. it is more my disgruntled mood towards the weather.. because I can guarantee you are much more comfortable than me :)... transition between seasons is always hard, expecially in our semi-tropic state of NC, but beginning to work in some fall pieces can be easy. All colors of gray will be in this season so begin to work in light grays with black or navy. Begin to add in texture weather it be a suede open toe bootie, leather handbags, or a braided belt or headband and then accessorize with color to create a versatile look that is moving towards next seasons styles. Rich jewel tones will be in for Fall and still have the light, carefree feel of your summer wardrobe. So pair a rich navy dress with a mustard yellow pump and a crossbody distressed leather handbag or wear a casual LBD (little black dress) with a cobalt blue scarf in your hair and a gray suede shoe. Whether it be nixing a bright patterned springtime dresses or saving your flip flops for a drop-in Yoga class.. begin to tie in more structured pieces, still lightweight, but start to move away from your summer staples.
As I have been helping people clean out their closets and make their flawless transition into Fall, it has been important to have a try on session with favorite, seasonally appropriate, pieces and see what still fits, how to accessorize it differently, and modernize the look. Things to keep in mind: 1) If it is in bad condition, unrepairable, then GET RID OF IT! 2) Alter everything - make a pile of denim, dresses, even workout clothing and take it to a tailor. So simple but will clean up any look and makes those pieces useful again. 3) Separate your basic dresses from your specialty pieces and make an effort to wear these as much as your DVF's, Trina's, and Tibi's.. It is always easy to pull out a dress with a pattern and go but those patterns become recognizable and can easily make your look dated. If you accessorize your basic dresses with color and texture it will modernize and refresh your look, creating versatility and creativity into your wardrobe. If you have any questions or need help sorting through your options for Fall then please let me know. The task is much easier, and less overwhelming, if you have a little professional help ;)
Happy Cashmere Season Beauts!

Carb Control is the New Mind Control
Hi Beauts!
Happy Tuesday morning! In my past experiences with weightloss I have always found success when I am able to control my carbohydrate intake. I am not talking about the days of Dr. Atkin's quick fix diet, I mean knowing and understanding the difference between complex and simple carbs and the effect that these have on your brain and body. Complex carbs tend to be in natural foods and are like time-release capsules of sugar. The liver gradually breaks down these sugar molecules and your brain uses the glucose for fuel. Simple Carbs, on the other hand, are found in most processed or refined foods and break apart quickly during digestion, entering the bloodstream and spiking your blood sugar, giving you a surge of insulin. Too much sugar or refined carbohydrates at one time can actually deprive your brain of glucose - depleting its energy supply and compromising your brain's power to concentrate, remember, and learn. Bloodsugar spikes have also been linked to an increased risk for diabetes, metabolic syndrome, heart disease, and obesity.
Coupling healthy carbs with protein is a good way to manage your bloodsugar levels. Protein helps to blunt the absorption of carbohydrates into your bloodstream keeping your bloodsugar in control and serving as a balanced diet. Eating natural carbs such as oatmeal, whole grains, or fruit earlier in the day will also aid in a healthier diet as your body has time to use the energy throughout the day and not convert the excess into fat as it goes unused. Lean proteins - fish and chicken - and non-starchy vegetables - broccoli and spinach, for dinner will leave you feeling satisfied and you will really feel the difference in the mornings! Carbs can leave you with a "moon face" in the am if eaten too late.
I hope that this information will help you to make healthy choices with your diet this week! Avoid the despondent feeling that carb overload can leave you with and freshen up your diet with vegetables and other whole foods! No brain drain for the fit and fab!! Have a great day gals!

A Week in the Life of LB!
These days I have discovered the path to enlightenment! I have been bopping around town to the beat of my own drum. Free as a bird, happy as a clam, broke as MC Hammer... Well.. Not all of the above is accurate but I have been on a fresh new path and am feeling so liberated! As I am trying to break out on my own and explore new ventures, I have been a mad woman trying to fit it all in.
I have discovered that Summer is a tough time to stay fit and fab so I packed on a few lbs, I am not talking about more Lizzies and her Bananas, no, the real thing.. LBs.. So I am cleaning up my diet, my fitness regimen, and my life! I am eating a low calorie, but manageable, diet of whole foods, lean proteins, healthy fats, and energizing carbs. So far i am feeling the effects and am very pleased with my results. I would love to help you get back on your path to a healthy lifestyle, it is sooo rewarding!
As far as physical exercise is concerned, I can never get enough! It's my addiction, hell of a lot better than some, I feel the endorphines buzzing and the sweat dripping and I am in my zone.. Whether it be a Hot 26 Yoga class with Grace Morales, a "Kick Your Asana" Power Yoga class with Joey Barnes, or a Kettlebell workout - known as the EFP (Elite Fitness Protocol) or KHBK (KettleHell BootKamp) - with Cyrus Peterson at Advanced Training Concepts (ATC) I am in it to win it! I am lucky to have amazing teachers and mentors who are the best of the best, and Charlotte is lucky to have such pioneers in this City! As I am becoming a teacher of both arts, Yoga and Kettlebell training, I will forever be a student, learning technique, languaging cues, core principles, and form from all of the Greats, I am able to share that with my students only enhancing their personal experience in class. I am currently teaching a beginnner's Kettlebell class called KettleKore at ATC and Yoga classes from my "home" studio. My schedule is as follows:
KettleKore:
Tuesdays, Thursdays: 6:30- 7:15 am
Saturdays: 8:00 - 8:45 am
Yoga:
Tuesdays: 5:30 - 6:30 pm
Thursdays: 3:00 - 4:00 pm
Please email me at elizabethupchurch@gmail.com for more information about Kettlekore, Yoga, or private lessons.
On top of everything, I am also working with my very 1st client to reorganize her closet and so far it has been very successful. Tomorrow is day 3 and we have already accomplished way more than we had thought! She has removed the clutter, given back to her community, and designed an impeccable Fall wardrobe around clothes that she already had.. We picked up a few new items on Wednesday's shopping spree but we won't tell her hubby about those ;)

Je t'aime, Amelie's French Bakery
Good Morning Prettys,
NoDa is a neighborhood in Charlotte that has always intrigued me. Noda, short for North Davidson, is Charlotte's historic arts district located just 2 miles North of Uptown. As Soho's little sister, Noda is the ideal setting for live music, gallery crawls, 24 hour coffee houses, and some of the best restaurants in town! Many of you have made the trip to Cabo Fish Taco for high gravity beers and the best blackened Mahi tacos you have ever tasted. The Neighborhood Theater has proven to be a great venue for up and coming artists as well as noodle-worthy favorites from our younger days. I made the trip one eve with the Cole-Holderfields to see Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band and the experience was...... colorful?!
I made the trip this morning to NoDa to check out Amelie's French Bakery. I have heard amazing things about the cozy cafe that is open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Serving soups, sandwiches, and of course, French pastries around the clock. Upon walking in the cafe this morning, you can see the detail that has been applied to this, quite large, bakery. The walls are Robin's egg blue, with overstuffed Victorian inspired furniture scattered about the multi-room space, toile lamps and curtains, Eiffel Tower accessories, a Mona Lisa print with vintage Ray Ban shades stuck to her face :), intricate chandeliers with origami swans dangling from them continue to characterize the Je ne sais quoi of the bakery. Large glass top community tables with sets of King Louis chairs surrounding, labeled on the back with titles like Court Jester and "Bill". a huge vintage black and white map of Noda is on one wall, painted above saying "You are here... sort of" Hipsters, students, yogis, young (and old) professionals prop themselves up in the high-back chairs with computer and espresso at arms length, Amelie's is truly a place to network, meet, sip, and eat, anytime of the day. You can never be lonely in Charlotte knowing that this homage to French culture exists just a few miles away from you! This is the perfect place to get some work done, network, or just enjoy the company of strangers (or friends).
Check out the website:

LB will be back NoDa this Friday at Dolce Vita Wine Bar to see Andrew Carpenter and Christian Skilone's band Dimestore Saints play. Hope to see you guys there!

What's Going On?
Hi Beautifuls! Happy Monday morning! I sit here still reeling from the events that have transpired over past 10 days, I am so excited to see my visions lining up!!!! I am blasting the 4 Non Blondes - What's Going On song in my earbuds at Sbucks and feel that that is a legitimate question for the day... What in the H-bomb is going ON?? Well.. in the world of Lizzie Bananas, we are busy busy.. Thanks to the beautiful girls at Lululemon Showroom I have a workshop coming up on Tuesday, September 28th to show all of you Fit and Fabulous ladies what we can do together to get your life in order! From advice on a detoxifying diet, to ridding your closet of the old and unused, to a cleansing yoga session we will cover it all; Mind, body, and CLOSET! I will keep you posted on the complimentary event but keep your eye out for postings on Lululemon Athletica Charlotte's FB page as well as The Fit Fashion Review FB page!
This weekend was a HUGE weekend in fashion and music and I hope that you all were able to tune in to some of these exciting events! The VMA's were huge last night with Lady Gaga racking up 8 awards including the Video of the Year for Bad Romance! - Don't be jealous but LB will be with the Gags next Sunday in Raleigh for her big show at the RBC center, I will definitely blog about my experience at a live performance of Gaga's! Florence and the Machine delivered an inspiring performance of Dog Days and Taylor Swift blew me away with her mature and elegant display of perfection!
NYC's Fashion Night Out 2010 came to a close on September 10th and was truly inspiring for the Fall season! For some of us money savvy, Fit and Fabulous girls, the first place I would check out for Fall fashion is Madewell!! Alexa Chung designed a collection for Madewell that dropped this past Saturday in stores. The line is made up of cool printed T's, layering pieces, peacoat inspired jackets, stripes, and feminine dresses. This will surely sell out so pop into your closest Madewell and check her out!
Well Dolls, Thanks for tuning in as always! I will be writing more frequently to keep you updated on Yoga classes, Kettlebell classes, and events that I will be hosting!!
This week's Yoga class schedule:
Tuesday:
5:30pm - 6:30 pm - 2918 Duvalla ave Charlotte, NC
(loved having class at my house so much I am going to do it again this week!)
Thursday:
3:00 - 4:00pm - 2918 Duvalla Ave Charlotte, NC
Many Thanks!

California Dreamin'
B-E-A-UTIFULs!!! If you aren't OB-sessed already with Katy Perry and her new CD, Teenage Dream, well then it is time to pick up a copy of the COTTON CANDY scented, yes, the CD smells like the strawberry shortcake dolls of our younger years, and start jamming! If you are tired of California Girls then that is certainly understandable but do NOT let it deter you from listening to every other song on this CD because it is so good and the perfect mix to say goodbye to the boys of summer. The CD kicks off with Teenage Dream, which for me breaks my heart right now but is still a favorite amongst the fit and fab. #2..... OMG it is Katy's best on the CD! The Song is called T.G.I.F. and is a fun, going out song, that breaks off into an electric sax rendition at the end that makes you want to kick up your feet like you are at The Max with Slater and Lisa Turtle! Following that, comes Cali Girls, then Peacock and Firework which are the next 2 songs to be released to your local DJ's. Circle the Drain has caused quite a stir for KP as it is a song that she wrote taking some major digs at Travie McCoy, her ex, about his inadequacies in bed, pill popping antics, and childish ways! It's awesome and definitely shows a rock and roll side of our girl. My favorite song on the entire CD is The One That Got Away.. when she says "I was June and you were my Johnny Cash, never one with out the other, we made a pact.. Sometimes when I miss you I put those records on... Ughh it kills my little black heart but is SUCH a great song! Anyway, I won't spoil the rest but there are 5 more tracks that will melt your popsicle as well as 2 hidden tracks .. which I won't spoil BUT I will say that Passion Pit is behind the remix's. I hope you all are able to pick up this gem and enjoy it as I have with my KettleKore girls, on roadtrips to the beach, and cruising for boys with Lo.... Speaking of.. Lori's favorite is E.T. so definitely give that one a listen ;) - "Infect me with your loving, fill me with your poison!" Thanks for reading Dolls! I will be in touch soon with anything and everything fit and fab!

Out with the old, in with the new!
Hi Beauts! Lizzie Bananas is back. I went on a little hiatus and am starting fresh today! Although it is Tuesday, I like to pretend it's Monday, hell, I will pretend it's New Year's Day because I am truly wiping the slate clean and starting over. I am excited to tell you all that I am going in a new and exciting direction with my career and lifestyle! As we all do, I lost sight of a few things during a very hectic time in my life and am ready to settle down and focus on what is important.. Likeee... Nutrition, health, fitness, Yoga, Kettlebells, and all of the very important people in my life. First and foremost, I AM FOR HIRE :) Yes, LB, your girl, can be your any and everything to help organize your life and get your butt in shape! As Fall is right here, right now, I will be assisting many of you with your Fall wardrobe. Starting this week, I will be helping all of my FIT and FABULOUS friends cleanse their closets of the old and unnecessary, move in your Fall clothes, move OUT Summer, and figure out what you need for the upcoming season. I will also be teaching private yoga and personal training sessions, Kettlekore and Yoga classes at ATC, as well as having a presence at Charlotte Yoga (THANK YOU DIANE!) I am thrilled to start this new chapter of my life and hope that I can be of assistance to all of you fit and fab ladies! Please feel free to email me at elizabethupchurch@gmail.com if you have any questions or ideas because I know I can't do this without you all!!

Queen City Cuisine
Hello my Beauts! I hope that all is well with you. I am excited to let you all in on a few of my newest favorite restaurant finds in the QC! At the thought of losing a staple restaurant like Las Ramblas, my very favorite, spanish tapas restaurant in Dilworth, I felt as though the owners - the masterminds behind Bonterra - had made a huge mistake taking this gem out of the neighborhood... after hearing the "agenda" I may be beginning to think otherwise. The once Las Ramblas located on Park Rd is now called Sunset Grille. It offers a wide range of comfort food from flatbread pizzas, sandwiches, and wood-fired burgers. Las Ramblas is not lost in the concept though... two of the best tapas dishes from the OG menu- now called "appetizers" are offered daily... The goat cheese cakes with apricot honey reduction, roasted garlic, and toasted almonds and the P.E.I. mussels. Las Ramblas is not gone for good though, do not be mistaken, the entire tapas menu is offered on Monday nights, including their signature Sangria, and a relocation/upgrade to LR is now in the works! Hopefully it will stay in the neighborhood!
On to the next... Southpark's newest sushi restaurant is amazing! Cyros Sushi and Sake Bar, located beside Rooster's on Morrison, began at Dean and Deluca Wine Bar in Phillips Place. If you have ever tried the Sushi menu at D&DWB then you understand the delicious and original concoctions that these talented chef's have been working into Menu's all over the QC. The Sushi chefs at Cyros have experience at Rooster's Wine Bar, PRESS, and Dolce Vita and have brought it all home to the newly opened Cyros. On a quiet Monday night at 9 pm on Sunday you can rarely find a crowd at any restaurant but Cyros was packed, the food and service was amazing, and was a perfect date night spot!
I will let you all find out for yourselves about these two but I think that you may be satisfied with either and those of you that need to visit soon, ahem... I can't wait to take you to one of these!
Enjoy!

A Day of Booty
Hi Beauts! Yes you read it correctly - 24, whole hours, of BOOTY! Starting tonight at 7:00 pm cyclist bike the infamous 3 mile Booty Loop, through Queens University in beautiful Myers Park, for 24 hours to benefit The Lance Armstrong Foundation. This is the 9th annual, 24 Hours of Booty, charity ride to take place in the Queen City. To participate the 1200 expected bikers can make the loop as many or as few times as they would like but the true devotees set up camp in Bootyville and only rest and eat when necessary and bike the 24 hours. Bootyville, located in the heart of the loop becomes a little city in itself providing food, music, camp, and even yoga classes to stretch out their weary bodies before hopping on the bicycle for more! Don't be mistaken though, everyone is welcome in Bootyville! LB hasn't ridden a bike since the 'ol toss and tumble in Boone on the way to class sophmore year but I am going to hop on the back of a certain someone's Ducati to see what the fuss is about! Hope to see you all there! Surrounding roads are closed off until 6 am on Saturday including, Queens Rd, Selwyn Ave, Queens Rd West, and Hopedale Ave !

A Trip to the Motherland and All I Got was This Lousy Tan...
As I scraped the bottom of yet another empty bottle of product I finally decided it was time to take a trip to the Motherland and pick up some new goods! SEPHORAA - Get ready for the always inquisitive Lizzie Bananas! As always I asked every Bleach Blonde - MAC employee impersonator - in there a trillion questions trying to find the best self tanner, hairspray, morrocan oil, and pimple treater in stock.. I have some bad news and some good.. Starting with the bad - Frederick Fekkai is NO LONGER sold at Sephora!! Good News - you can now find it at your local TARGET (not kidding). Bad News - I tried Kate Somerville's, Somer 360, self-tanner wipes... Major disappointment. They left me with little color AND average to be about 6$ a wipe.. LB would have to go through the whole box to get the bronze glow I am looking for in a tanner. Good News - The NEXT self tanner I will be testing out is our favorite Jailbird's, Li-Lo, Sevin Nyne - WILL keep you posted on the results of that review.
Hairspray - so, yes, it is very 80's of me but I realized that a little hairspray for shine and control has become my MO for curly days! I had been using Aveda's Brilliant hold and shine spray but it was leaving me sticky and tangled. I picked up Oscar Blandi's Lacca Hairspray - LOVE IT! It smells like Jessica McClintoch perfume and feels light like a shine spray but holds very well. It uses sugar for hold and honey for shine and is exclusive to the Motherland! 5 stars for this! I'm sold!
So Moroccon Oil- Keep hearing about how great Moroccon Argan oil is for skin, hair, nails, you name it! So I have dry skin, dry hair and I new that this may be a great product to have around for those super dry days! JOSIE MARAN ARGAN OIL. After hearing from my Lady Gaga wannabe sales girl that THIS was THE ONLY ARGAN Oil I should be using.. I must agree... It is just what I needed. After a long hot shower I applied the oil to my face, ran it through my hair, and finished by rubbing the excess into my hands. I woke up still feeling dewy and my hair was super shiny - cuticles conditioned too! A+.
Lastly, I picked up a product that I had the chance to try a month ago when visiting my favorite Kelly women at the beach.. (NO SLEEP TIL BK.. THANK YOU FOR THIS) The Boscia Willow Bark Breakout Treatment is AMAZING! My first experience it wiped out a nasty little pimple in 2 days.. it literally brought it to the surface and i peeled it off like dried toothpast 48 hrs later. no scar, no red mark!! I always feel like I am fighting a little guy right around my chin area and am always looking for the quickest remedy. I have reviewed the PTR in the past and thought it to be wonderful, but Peter, You ain't got nothin' on this one.. Thanks again Bets for introducing me to this one.. it's found a permanent spot in the regimen!
Well Gals, this is all I've got for today! I hope that it is helpful for any of you looking around for the best of the best products..
Thanks for tuning in!

Say Goodbye to our Gals in Hollywood
Oh Boohoo, I am soo down right now as I watch the last episode of The Hills... EVER. We have known little Kristin Cav since she was but a mere tween... and LO, well Lo has always been the mirror image of my little LeLe... Why Brody, Why must you break all of our hearts with these odd girls like Jayde Nicole and Avril... eeek! As much as I used to think Stephanie Pratt was the biggest iD on the planet, and Audrina to be just a little trashy.. I will miss their company. They have been friends to all of us and LB will cry for our girls and guys and long for the always confused gaze of Frankie, as he becomes increasingly perplexed by Spencer's antics.
As bummed as I am about the ending of an era, I am really excited about a few upcoming things in the world of LB! I am having a Kettlebell Workshop this Thursday evening at 6:00 pm at the Lululemon Showroom located at 1318-A9 Central Avenue Charlotte, NC 28205! If you are unsure of where that is I will explain.... If you are sitting on the porch at SOUL.. our favorite Gastro Lounge... then look to the left at the brick buildings with archways.. it is back there with the signature Lululemon stylized A logo on the door, behind the Junior League Warehouse and right near Bang Bang salon. Got it? Great!! I can't wait to see you there. If you would like to facebook me for more information or to RSVP then please do so! I hope you all can make it to this Complimentary class!!

Want to Lose lbs with LB?
I know, can you believe it??... ANOTHER POST! I am on top of it this week :)... I wanted to let you gals know about a few affordable workout programs that you can participate in this summer to keep you fit and fab with flat abs!
First and foremost your girl Lizzie Bananas is instructing a bootcamp style program called Kettlekore that you MUST check out! It will be 45 minute classes held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 am and Saturdays at 8:00 am. It will be high energy, semi-private classes, that will serve as an introduction to kettlebell training and encorporate fat torching, that's right TORCHing, exercises using medicine balls, resistance bands, and your own bodyweight! Kettlekore is a total body workout that works the cardiovascular, muscular, and neuromuscular systems of the body.. BEAT THAT fitness fads of 2010... they can't! This program begins on June 15th and I am kicking it off with an introductory trial of $39 for 2 weeks of classes, a complimentary yoga session, and non-intrusive body composition testing. Please check out http://www.advancedtrainingconcepts.com/ to register or for more information!
If you are in the market for a new fitness program and want to sample a FEW local personal training and fitness gyms, then there is no better way to do it than the ASANA Activewear Summer Bootcamp Series. Although LB would love to have you in Kettlekore, ASANA offers the QC a new and challenging workout every Saturday from June 12th - August 7th featuring 5 different conceptual gyms in the area.. Advanced Training Concepts is also participating in the Bootcamp series so it can also serve as an opportunity to experience KB training, amongst many other things, so that you can then make the decision as to what program can work for you! KettleHell, Kettlebell, KettleKore, We Want More!
Many of you may know about Advanced Training Concepts and the Kettlebell sport but for those of you that want to know more about the highly effective sport and training facility that I have been participating in then please read on! The Kettlebell looks like a bowling ball with a handle, you have probably seen it in the corner, untouched, in your local gym. Here in NC it seems like a foreign object but all over the United States it is being used to enhance the wellbeing and physiques of fitness enthusiasts, athletes, and celebrities such as Camerson Diaz.
Advanced Training Concepts, ATC, is the only training facility in the region that is dedicated to the use of the Russian Kettlebell and has provided Charlotte with a few class options including one instructed by yours truly!! In the past few months I have dedicated every ounce of my free time to obtain a Personal Trainer Certification (NFPT), Kettlebell Instructor training (Kettlebell Concepts), and am still grinding through a 200 hr Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training with Rolf Gates! I am starting a class called KettleKore at ATC this month and it will combine all of my formal training and will focus on the foundations of Kettlebell lifting, bodyweight exercises, and Vinyasa Yoga! I have gotten in the literal best shape of my life through Kettlebell training and am really excited to begin a process to help people achieve and surpass the results that I have experienced.
I have found inspiration from my teachers, especially my primary Instructor and coach, Cyrus, owner and head instructor of ATC and plan on competing in the Kettlebell sport at a National level in the near future. One motivating factor for me is the progress that a team of women on the West Coast have made for women in the KB arena. Jess, Maya, Surya, and Sara are mothers, athletes, friends, and Masters of Sport and all around Kick ass girls. They are called the Ice Chamber Kettlebell Girls and have made a name for themselves Internationally. I get super pumped up watching their videos and look forward to gaining similar respect within the sport! Thank you all for your support over the last year. Please let me know if any of you are interested in giving it "a swing" it may just change your life as it has mine!!
Check out my Bio at www.advancedtrainingconcepts.com under the about us tab! LOOKING GOOD ;) and please feel free to contact me about any information regarding personal training, KettleKore, or competing in Kettlebell Sport!

PTR for Your MAB
I have been raving about my new favorite skincare line, Peter Thomas Roth, for a few months now but after a big 'ol engagement party for my sister and her beau this weekend I came home with the repercussions of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries on my face!! This big, painful, MAB (Morning-After Blemish) square on my forehead.... YUCK! I have been dabbing PTR's acne spot treatment on it for 2 days and.... well.... it's gone! PTR's products all contain active ingredients at an affordable price so that us product queens can reap the benefits of glycolic acic, salicylic acid, sulfer, peptides, vitamins and minerals that are all essential for cell turnover, pore minimizing, exfoliating, moisturizing, and cleansing to fight the signs of aging and care for our skin.
I am currently using their Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel... It is their best seller... Which contains glycolic and salicylic acid that brighten, clarify, and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It has a really fresh scent and the 8.5 fl ounce bottle lasts me up to 4 months costing only $35.00. Now not all of his products are as affordable as that but if you are young and fresh as all of my Fabulously Fit readers are then this, with a good moisturizer, can be your own little weapon against blemishes and dead skin! In addition to the cleanser, I also use the Max Complexion pads.. LB's lazy version of a face wash.. but these too contain salicylic and glycolic acid.... I am sure you have all have been offered a glycolic peel with your standard facial at the spa.. Well LB was in a state of relaxed delirium when I was once asked this and I opted to have this peel done.. well not only did it cost an arm and a leg but it burned like hell! With PTR's products you are getting the benefits of these active ingredients in a lower grade, which if used consistently and continually you WILL recieve the same results, and a less ache to your bank account and pretty little faces. Lucky us, we can educate ourselves on skincare now to prevent the many signs of aging that could show up in the next 20 years.
As Summer is approaching it is imperative that we try to stay out of the sun and use SPF like a psycho! This week on http://www.peterthomasroth.com/ all SPF products are 15% off!! Check out Uber Dry Sunscreen for oily skin or the Max Sheer All Day Defense Lotion with SPF 30 both are recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation as effective UV Sunscreen! They even have this really cool Brush-on Mineral SPF 30 made of Titanium Dioxide and Mica that reflect light, create smoothness, and contains Vitamins A, C, and E and antioxidants to combat free radicals!! I am going to pick that up today to take advantage of the sale!!
PTR is available at Sephora, Ulta, and many stand alone stores. I hope you enjoy theses gems! Each product is truly impressive and I have seen a difference in my skin!!!

Lululemon Athletica Showroom opening this week in the QC!
Hello to all of you fit, fashionable, beautiful friends of LB! My apologies for having not written in a week! I have been in 3 days of Yoga training straight in to 3 days of Spring Sale at LUNA... Thank you all who came out to the sale it was a great success and A LOT of fun! As I spent another weekend at The Breathing Room in Charlotte as part of my 200 h0ur Yoga Teacher Training experience with Rolf Gates, several breakthroughs occured, conquering a few fears, actually finding myself in Meditation, and nailing a handstand :) Over the time of the weekend I found myself with clothing envy of my fellow yogis, I know... Patanjali is shaking a spiritual finger at me... but I have spent too much time in the Kettlebell Studio swinging around steel balls that I have forgotten how much fun it is to be in a matching two piece yoga fit as I shrink wrap into integrity in warrior 2...(Don't feel lost - I just HAD to reference some terminology from the weekend ;)
The outdoorsy women had their Prana ensembles with Chaco's on hand to grab lunch. Lily Lotus was another staple clothing line with a litte bit of an edge - with breathable burnout Hamsa Tees and bejeweled Chakra pants that created a versatile style that could go from the Mat to the streets.... But everyone else seemed to be adorning themselves in the, ever recognizable, "stylized A" logo of Lululemon...
Lululemon Athletica began in 1998 in Vancouver as Chip Wilson wanted to develop technical athletic clothing i.e. moisture wicking, pre-shrunk fabrics that provide great shape retention and coverage to smooth, cool, and suck you in as you bounce from downdog to forward fold and back out to your noon facial! Comfort and function is only the icing on the cake..... The patterns and colors are just to DIE FOR!!
To my utter excitement THIS FRIDAY APRIL 30th... The Lululemon Showroom will open in Charlotte on Central Avenue! The Showroom will feature free yoga classes on Saturday mornings and events throughout the week! The Showroom will be open from 11 am - 6 pm on Friday and will follow with the GRAND OPENING on Saturday! - The GO will feature a 10 am Yoga class with Johnna Smith following the Midwood Maynia 5k Race in Midwood Park. Please check out this amazing new showroom and all of the events going on this MAY DAY!!

JET Setting in Screen Printed T's
Many of you have seen John Eshaya's designs on all of your favorite celebs; The Nik's (Richie and Hilton), ScarJo, Kimmie, Ashley, Miley, Vanessa, and all of the other style icons of our generation.. The California native recently opened his flagship store, JET, at the Santa Monica Fred Segal "marrying street and runway fashion". His experience as VP, Creative Director, and Buyer for Fred Segal has established him as one of the most influential people in ready to wear fashion. He has come to define Southern California style, with his denim lines and lightweight pieces, and has recently launched a unique T-shirt line with jewelry designer Tom Binns.
Binns, an irish jeweler who lives in Venice, founded his company in 2004 with high quality, contemporary designs that combine elegance and anarchy through vintage jewels and skulls. Eshaya and Binns collaborated on the T-shirt line which features screen printed designs of Binns' collage neclaces. The seven piece T-shirt collection are made of soft rayon with oversized prints of Binns' creations. Each design bearing a name such as Elizabeth, Winston, and Victoria. Hope you get a chance to check out theses T's before they sell out!!

Laugh With Me LeeLee!
Getting LeeLee to laugh with me has never posed a challenge but choosing my new spring/summer scent sure has proven to be! Laugh With Me LeeLee is actually the new perfume by Benefit that I picked up at Sephora the other day, not pertaining to the endless giggles shared with my bff (hey Leah).
This is the time of year that the olfactory system is at work, as we catch whiffs of blooming flowers, fresh-cut grass, and sunscreen, visions of summers at the beach, dewy evenings, and tan lines flood our memories. I went on a mission to the mall to find the perfect scent to match my mood. I wanted anything Vanilla, Coconut, floral, beachy.. sweet.. by the time I left I was in a whirlwind of aromas, with a small headache and an impulse buy. I like the new scent but there were definitely others that caught my eye... errr.. I mean nose.
Stella McCartney's, Stella eau de parfum, has a rosy, amber, floral scent that reminded me of a pretty picnic/tea party.. Perfect for Spring! I also liked Juicy's Viva La Juicy. It has a flashy not trashy bottle and smelled like a neon pencil skirt, white T, and wayfarer sunglasses (at night).. no really.. it had a little gardenia, vanilla, and praline notes that was fun and girlie! Everyone knows I am YUGE Kim K fan but did have doubts about her new fume... I was surprisingly impressed! Listed as having sandalwood, vanilla, mandarin, pink jasmine, and "lush" gardenia it really did smell great and the bottle reminds me of the Poison bottle that my mom had in the 90's that exudes shoulder pads, YUGE sunglasses, and diamonds (my Mom's 90's style totally parallels Kris Jenners - you know you have seen the THS).
Match your daily aroma with your mood to create another sensory memory for next year... Everytime I smell citrus, melon, black violet, lily, and jasmine (the notes of Laugh With Me LeeLee) I will forever think of Summer 2010... That IS unless I decide to go back to my old faithful Bobbi Brown - Beach ... hmmm..

Lizzie Bananas on Protein
So, Summer is fast approaching and we are DYING to get into our white denim, cutoff shorts, racerback tanks, and mini dresses but we have been hiding in our winter "coats. It's time to shed those extra layers and feel great about ourselves again! A lot of women live off of low calorie cereals, bars, reduced-fat wheat thins, veggie burgers, lean cuisines, etc.. all of which have a really high carb content and barely ANY protein. If you are working out all the time but feel like you aren't losing any weight then it's time to cut the carbs and AMP up the protein! Protein helps the body burn fat and maintain lean muscle mass. Muscle burns more calories at rest. You should be trying to eat at least 30 grams of protein AT EACH MEAL. Pick protein for your snacks too, don't grab the Kashi bar, think cottage cheese, greek yogurt, sargento 2% cheese sticks, or make the Smoothie recipe that I have listed as the recipe of the day - look over there.. to the right of the screen :) Sounds yummy huh?? You are getting your mid-day caffeine kick, and tons of protein and only around 200 cals!
One of the easiest ways to get that protein in is to purchase some whey powder and add it to anything you can.. hide some in your oatmeal in the mornings, add it in with the dry ingredients and then cook according to the package directions. At lunch don't just get salad, get grilled chicken salad, or salmon salad, just account for the extra calories and cut out any additional snacks you may usually have in the afternoons, probably due to the low quality lunch of lettuce, because once again, you will burn more calories at rest as your body utilizes the protein to repair or maintain your muscles! The best dinner you can have for yourself is lean protein and veggies. Carbs at night will leave you craving more carbs and you will wake-up with that puffy look in your face and belly. I live off of salmon and asparagus, sashimi, or even low-carb fish tacos. (LB has currently sworn off red meat or chicken, and hopefully will never again eat PORK.. That's a whole other beast :) I have added the Spicy Fish Tacos recipe (which feeds like 4 people) on the right as well... YUMMMMY
Well girls get on the juice.. juice being lean protein and protein powders, to lose body fat quicker and get in those hot pants as soon possible.. SUMMERTIME AND THE LIVING'S EASY...

Sargeant Safari and her Tribe of Expatriates
Spring is here and all of the Glamazons are hiting the concrete jungle in the season's hottest trends.... The "oh so now" look is an effortless mix of deconstructed-soldier, animal prints, safari gear, and tribal inspired jewelry and accessories!
Yes, Sargeant Safari is a fictional person but I envision her strewn across her dusty throne in Southern Africa wearing an adorned Military jacket, a ruffled cream tunic, cropped skinny cargos, drenched in animal print cuffs and bangles up her thin arms, and a pair of fierce untied combat boots... it's a little much for your Tuesday morning Starbucks run but if you want to be in HER tribe then take a cue or two from her Majesty!
Starting with the newest rendition of the military style- this time around it's much more of a casual look... disheveled even. Really anthing army green will do.. maybe throw in some pins and a belt from Uncle Sam's Outfitters, a super feminine white ruffle skirt or dress, and BOOM.. You're in! Totally kill it with the Alexander Wang opentoe boots that lace-up AND zip and well... we bow at your stylish feet! J Crew has an army green printed short, Dylan George - Skinny Cargo's, Marc Jacobs - jackets and skirts, really everywhere you look you will find hints of this style and it's not going anywhere... but did it ever in the first place? If you wear this style this season be sure to let it hang, picture the slouchy soldier.. messy braids and buns and you will really pull it off! Sir yes sir ;)
Safari and Animal prints are a definite do.. It goes hand in hand with the messy Military girl.. A really fun way to modernize this look is to throw on a pair of distressed, off-white denim - Try Seven's Roxanne Skinny with Peekaboo Grey in Marah White (Yes, we have them at LUNA!)... the grey gives it that dingy just off the Jeep look and pair it with a structured twill Jacket and an animal print accessory and you will be so now. As far as animal print, think Giraffe or python, mabe even a little Zebra. Another oh-so Aniston look that you can tie in with your cute Safari accessories would be to wear a cropped Cargo pant with a tucked in neutral T and Metalic printed heel, finish with big, native inspired earings and a clean ponytail.
It's a jungle out there but I am sure with a bit of regimented style you will be your own Chief in the wild world of fashion!
Don't forget JOHNNY BANANAS at NICHE today!! Hope to see you there!!

Lizzie Bananas LOVES Johnny Cupcakes
Yumm! Sounds like the makings of a fusion sundae, but no.. It's just me, LB, professing my LOVE for Johnny Cupcakes! Not just the extremely handsome, young, intellegent, driven, founder of the brand, but the ultra-creative, sometimes vulgar, definitely alternative clothing line, JOHNNY CUPCAKES. If you are not familiar with the delicious man that I am refering to then please read on because he and his T-shirt slinging "bakeries" are worth your time.
1st and foremost Johnny Cupcakes, himself, will be in Charlotte next Tuesday, April 6th at Niche in Southend!! He is taking it back to his roots on an official "Suitcase Tour" selling merchandise out of the Cupcake Mobile the way he did when he started his company selling screen printed T's out of the trunk of his '89 Camry during his lunch breaks. His brand has grown outstandingly since then, with a true cult following in the music and band scene as well as opening up "Bakeries" in such shopping Mecca's as Boston's Newbury Street and the City of Angels. His signature is what looks like a skull and crossbones from afar but upclose you see that it is but a sweet little cupcake atop the bones! This past weekend I indulged myself and made a special trip into the Newbury Bakery only to find rolled glass bakery cases and vintage racks all displaying the newest designs by Johnny Cupcakes. In the window "freshly baked" was printed in fat bubbly letters and I overheard some passerbys looking for the sweet temptations only to be pleasantly surprised by what they found inside!
Well JC's Suitcase Tour has just begun so be sure to catch him in your city but to those of you Charlottean's I really hope to see you at Niche on Tuesday... believe me you will be enticed by what you find!

Welcome to the Fit Fashion Review
My name is Elizabeth Upchurch, sometimes Lizzie Bananas, and I have found myself at a place in my life where a blog just seems necessary to vent, shamelessly plug, and unwind. I want to share some insight on everything I think is cool, fun, fashionable, healthy, and new and hopefully get some of you, my closests and dearests, interested in some of the things that have made me happy and content in the past couple of years.
I have spent the past few years getting my life to a place of healthy existence and now I am on a new track. I manage a really cool boutique in Charlotte called LUNA. My fashionable staff (who you will meet along the way as I consult "the council") sell designer denim, T-shirts, and dresses (with a little cheap and chic stuff in-between) to fellow cool and hip women spreading the concept of "effortless style".
I am also a certified Personal Trainer and Kettlebell Instructor and am in the process of achieving a 200 hour Yoga Certification with Rolf Gates. I attend BootKamps regularly at Advanced Training Concepts, Charlotte's premier Kettlebell Studio, and plan on teaching yoga and kettlebell classes in the near future. Lemme know if you're interested, I can get you started :) I wasn't always this fit though.. I started in an icky place and will never go back but that's a different story... feel free to read it in the Kettlebell category at:
www.athleta.net
The following posts will feature fun thing that are going on in the Fashion, Fitness, Celebrity, Music, and all other exciting industries and I am excited to get started.. 1st official post will be up in couple of days and will feature a super exclusive event with well known designer right here in Charlotte... STAY TUNEDDD
