Hi Beauts!
Happy Tuesday morning! In my past experiences with weightloss I have always found success when I am able to control my carbohydrate intake. I am not talking about the days of Dr. Atkin's quick fix diet, I mean knowing and understanding the difference between complex and simple carbs and the effect that these have on your brain and body. Complex carbs tend to be in natural foods and are like time-release capsules of sugar. The liver gradually breaks down these sugar molecules and your brain uses the glucose for fuel. Simple Carbs, on the other hand, are found in most processed or refined foods and break apart quickly during digestion, entering the bloodstream and spiking your blood sugar, giving you a surge of insulin. Too much sugar or refined carbohydrates at one time can actually deprive your brain of glucose - depleting its energy supply and compromising your brain's power to concentrate, remember, and learn. Bloodsugar spikes have also been linked to an increased risk for diabetes, metabolic syndrome, heart disease, and obesity.
Coupling healthy carbs with protein is a good way to manage your bloodsugar levels. Protein helps to blunt the absorption of carbohydrates into your bloodstream keeping your bloodsugar in control and serving as a balanced diet. Eating natural carbs such as oatmeal, whole grains, or fruit earlier in the day will also aid in a healthier diet as your body has time to use the energy throughout the day and not convert the excess into fat as it goes unused. Lean proteins - fish and chicken - and non-starchy vegetables - broccoli and spinach, for dinner will leave you feeling satisfied and you will really feel the difference in the mornings! Carbs can leave you with a "moon face" in the am if eaten too late.
I hope that this information will help you to make healthy choices with your diet this week! Avoid the despondent feeling that carb overload can leave you with and freshen up your diet with vegetables and other whole foods! No brain drain for the fit and fab!! Have a great day gals!
xoxo,
